Getting the Gist of Drifting Vehicles
Cars specially designed for cruising the open road, with the top down, allowing the driver and passengers to appreciate nature at its best. Ones built to withstand high speeds and all the pressure associated with putting your life in the hands of a finely tuned engine. Then there are those that are built for family safety: tough, almost indestructible in the worst-case scenario. It is not surprising therefore that some cars are custom built for the motor sport of drifting.
Okay so let's look at what makes these vehicles so different to a small 1300 motor driven at a snail's pace by your great granny. Well, maybe one thing that they do have in common with the hotted up lawn mower driven to the bowling club for a game of bingo is that they must not be big and cumbersome. It is common sense that in order to get a car to slide out around a bend it must be no heavier than moderate in weight. Similarly, the ultimate features of a drifting vehicle fall within coupes and sedans with rear wheel drive.
Now let's get into the nitty gritty of the car parts needed under the chassis and bonnet that make a suitable car. Funnily enough, most people think of power when observing smoke billowing from the tyres of a drifting car. In actual fact, the car really should not be too powerful as it makes the car less easy to handle. Sticking to a set path is vital in competition; therefore the engine should achieve this rather than be overly powerful. These cars experience heat output greater than most, so really effective cooling systems are a must.
Steering the car is paramount in order for the driver to be able to correctly manipulate the over steer. Consequently, these cars have
steering wheel spacers, custom machined spindles, steering racks and tie rod ends. The steering wheel itself must be free moving and round in shape allowing it to glide through the hands to enhance driver control.
Other essential features include: limited slip differentials, specialised clutches built for hard wear and tear, urethane mounts, closer ratio gear sets and improved suspension. All designed to gain the ultimate performance without compromising the life of the car.
Finally, safety factors are a must with obvious reasons. Feeling correctly restrained while the car is in motion is a direct result of the bucket seats and harness, which free up the hands for crucial steering wheel manoeuvring. Hand brakes have slight adjustments to prevent them locking at inappropriate times. Roll cages, rear spoilers, wings, hood vents, custom tyres and altered wheel arches, along with extra components added to the frame and other non-essentials left out of the inside, increase safety, stability and reduce weight.
Overall, it appears that drifting vehicles have undergone numerous modifications. When one thinks that they are really putting their lives in their cars hands more than the ordinary, it can most certainly be justified.

Am trying to determine proper spacer placement for rear wheel chain drive 92 Sportster Hugger.?

Call be dumb, but what is "dfgdfg" supposed to stand for? An insult implying Steve is an idiot? Or are the spacers lettered with a d, f and g? If the former, keep your stupid answers to yourself. If the latter, explain further.
Steve, I'm not familiar with the rear hub on your bike, but you might take a look to see if one spacer is supposed to slip inside of a rubber lipped dust seal just outside of the wheel bearing in the wheel itself. If so, see if one of the spacers has a smooth, shiny strip going around it. If so, that one should fit in that spot, making sure the smooth area lines up with the seal's lip. A rough area will chew up the seal.
I've found that on many bikes, you need to spread the swingarm apart slightly to get the wheel and spacers in place. If your hands are reasonabaly strong, you can usually spread it enough by hand to get the job done.
If you're concerned afterwards about the proper spacing, take a long string, tie to the valve stemand first heading out to the left, wrap it around the outside of the tire and over to the right side, going around the back side of the tire at the rear of the bike. With the front wheel aimed straight forward, get in front of the front wheel and pulling the string taut, move it right or left until it just barely touched the edge of the front side of the tire. When it does, the string should line up with the front wheel. Keep in mind that since the rear wheel is wider than the front, when both wheels are aligned, the string will be a small but equal distance away from the front and rear sides of the front wheel. Flip the string around and do the same on the other side of the bike. Both sides should be even. In the good old days, I used this method to align the rear wheel with the front on chain drive bikes because the alignment marks on the swing arm weren't always accurate. On my 750 Honda, perfet alignment was one half mark off on one side compared to the other. Taking that into consideration when adjusting the chain got rid of the terrible neck and shoulder pains I'd get when riding long distances and fighting the steering.
