Lake County Chevy Silverado picked up by Verizon Wireless
In this day and age, it pays to be as green as possible. Corporate responsibility is on the up and up, especially with the problems companies like BP and Toyota have presented as of late. Grayslake Chevy Equinox drivers don't seem to be experiencing many problems in this area, however. As part of corporate responsibility trends over the past several years, sustainability and eco-friendly operations have moved to an all time high and have become an important part of representing your brand to the public. Lake County Chevy dealers have been dabbling in sustainability with the release of fuel-efficient hybrid trucks, and now it looks like that move will pay off with the help of another major name in corporate responsibility, leading phone service provider Verizon.
Corporate fleets are a great way to win some brand attention, and Chevy has gotten a bunch of that from Verizon's adoption of Chevrolet Silverado hybrids. Acquiring 576 in all to be exact, Verizon plans to use the two-mode hybrid systems to get better mileage in terms of service vehicles. Grayslake Chevy Equinox dealers liked that Verizon also communicated a desire to eventually employ around 1,600 total Silverado units to complete their corporate fleet and a huge step ahead in terms of responsibility. The company will also save big money on mileage. The Silverado, part of Chevy's reemergence into the industry after it went bankrupt during the recession, offers Lake County Chevy drivers an impressive 21 miles per gallon in city driving 22 miles per gallon on the highway.
"A major part of our sustainability strategy is to make smart use of lower-carbon alternatives to power our fleet and the operation of our high-IQ broadband networks," said James Gowen, chief sustainability officer for Verizon. That is a great way to promote your brand if I don't say so myself. Grayslake Chevy Equinox drivers are excited about the fact that they have a connection to one of the top brands in the communications industry, the one, the only, Verizon. This kind of partnership has the potential to bloom into a great thing for both brands involved.
"When Verizon first approached us about environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient vehicles for their urban drivers, we knew the Silverado hybrid was the perfect fit because of its outstanding city and highway MPG ratings," said Brian Small, GM Fleet and Commercial Operation general manager. "Immediately the team went to work to meet Verizon's ambitious July delivery deadline." Ambitious sounds about right.
Regardless of whether Chevy meets the deadline or not, it's great to know that there are still some companies out there with a sense of corporate responsibility. It's also nice to see Lake County Chevy dealers earning some respect since the recession ended. Since the government bailout, Chevy has finally returned to some measure of prominence. It's good to see a company that can follow through on its promises while delivering products that meet the evolving standards for the industry. I expect big things from Chevy over the next couple of years.
