Roller Bearing Systems
A roller bearing is any cylindrical or spherical object that aids in the movement of an object greater in size than the bearing itself. A roller bearing is a weight distribution-oriented bearing. The bearing utilizes many points of contact between a circular housing that contains internal rolling elements, such as ball bearings that sit within a collar. These bearing systems use the decrease in rolling resistance as a means of increasing the efficiency of moving an object.
Roller bearing systems can be either complex or simple. The simplest system is a simple roller unit underneath a heavier item. The roller unit allows the heavier item to be moved easily along the top of the rolling item.
Most roller bearing systems help create a decreased amount of friction between items, such as a wheel and the axle the wheel has been centered on. This allows the wheel to spin freely on the axle without being bound by the force of friction. It also decreases the force of drag on the wheel as it spins. This allows a wheel to be more easily pushed by any power source applied to it, whether it's an engine or a person pushing a car.
The number of ball bearings within a roller bearing unit directly determines the decrease in the amount of force necessary to move the object. The higher the number of ball bearings making contact with both the bearing housing and the object being moved, the higher the amount of drag and friction will be decreased. This is so because each ball bearing acts as a weight distributor as it travels around the axle, allowing the wheel to spin freely around the axle it has been set on.
There are also many different designs and types of roller bearing systems that may be used in various applications. For example, cylindrical roller bearings consist of a metal collar that contains a smaller, toothed wheel inside. Between each tooth on the wheel lies a ball bearing that is held in place by the toothed wheel. As the load travels, the wheel turns; however, the weight of the load remains fixed directly over the spherical ball bearings inside the cylinder, allowing the easy movement of the load being moved. These are one of the most common types of roller bearing systems.

How can I overcome my fear of rollercoasters?
I've been on some really bad ones before at Six Flags (Vertical Velocity, Roar, etc); the only ones I can really stand are the rides that don't go more than 20 mph, i.e. the kiddie rides. I hate the drops and the fast turns. My friends are merciless, and I will literally be _dragged_ into a ride with a 150ft drop. We're going in August, and I'd rather not be the only one to drop out because I'm a chicken.
Any advice? My chest gets tight just thinking about roller coasters; this is more than what "ride a ride a lot until you start to like it" can help. The chances something'll happen to me is slim to none, I know, but the actual fear of being strapped down by nothing more than a belt, with my legs dangling a hundred feet above the ground, is overwhelming.
I've been on Medusa, Vertical Velocity, and the rest of the ones that make you crap your pants. Is there some sort of medication I can take before getting on the ride, to help deal with the heights and speed?
??? A fear of rollercoaster is a completely NORMAL thing! People get high off the fear -- and overcoming the fear.
I think the only thing you can do is just learn to accept the fear, and welcome it, and keep repeating to yourself that safety standards are very high, and almost everyone who gets on a rollercoaster gets off alive.
As for me, I can't stand the dern things. My family has a history of heart problems, and the last time I rode on one, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. So, I recognize my limits, and don't expose myself to fear needlessly. And if any of my friends were so foolish as to ridicule me for that, I'd rip into them so hard they'd . . . probably not be my friend anymore. But I want my friends to like me for myself, not for my so-called daringness.
If you are young and healthy, then go ahead and succumb to peer pressure. (-: Rollercoasters can be fun, and bonding.
But if you really, really hate it, stand up for yourself, and don't be afraid of being "chicken."
