Remote Start Car Alarms

There are people out there that want to steal your car and if they don't steal the car they will break windows to get the contents. Cars get stolen daily in every city and town in the United States. Research shows that a car is stolen every 26 seconds. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) states that in 2006, nationwide, there were approximately 1.2 million car thefts with losses of property valued at $7.9 Billion. The losses average out to nearly $6,650 per stolen car. The latter does not take into account the value of the contents that was stolen which totaled $1.3 Billion plus wheels, airbags and headlights that were stolen off cars totaled nearly $530 million.

Here is a small list of the area in which vehicles were stolen and how many vehicles were stolen: In Los Angeles and surrounding areas 73,922 vehicles were stolen; In Chicago and surrounding suburbs 37,623 vehicles were stolen; Phoenix and surrounding areas 34,182 vehicles were stolen; and in Dallas-Fort Worth 29,542 vehicles were stolen.

Furthermore, car theft is on the rise so; protect your vehicle and yourself with a remote start car alarm. If your car is protected there is usually a sticker in the window that lets the thief know the car is linked to something somewhere that will cause him trouble and he will just move on to an unprotected vehicle. The alarm systems usually have a sensor that can distinguish a large touch to an aggressive blow to the vehicle and a system that prevent hot wiring. Most of the newer cars now come with a remote start car alarm but if you have an older car without one, it can be installed.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau recommends multiple layers of security naming the following four:

  • Common sense
  • Warning device
  • Immobilizing device
  • Tracking device

If you have just bought a new car and you have what you have been told is a remote start car alarm test it out. Roll your window down enough to put your hand through. Now, try to open your door. If the horn honks you are protected. No honk, no protection.

Is it possible to get a new remote starter transmitter?

Hello,
I recently purchased a used 2000 Ford Mustang. I was told it includes a remote starter, and there is a small unit with an antena on my windshield right above the mirror. There is also a sticker under the hood warning of a remote starter. I can't seem to get it to work. I have a Viper keyless entry/alarm system. I have tried every button combination i could think of on that transmitter, but to no avail. I was given no other transmitter for the remote starter. I have concluded that one was never given to the dealer. Would it be possible, and if so how much would it cost, to purchase a new transmitter for my remote starter and have it programmed for the starter already installed in my car?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes--find out what brand remote starter you have, the warning label may have the company name on it or it may be tied in with the Viper alarm---and contact a Viper dealer/installer or the remote starter company for a replacement remote and instructions to program it. There should be a control box for the remote start inside the car, like under the dash, that should have the company name on it.
