How many horsepower motor or engine will i need?
I'm looking to put a motor or engine on a mountain bike. i am just getting into this sort of mechanics, so please bear with me.
I'm looking for decent acceleration and a top speed around 30mph.
I weigh around figure that while im on it and with a motor/engine on it the total weight would be no more than 300lbs.
so what can you tell me about what size engine or motor i would need, i'd love to hear your suggestions.
A moped engine of 50cc would be able to get you up to 30mph.
With the lack of weight it should be able to get you up to that speed quite quickly too.
A moped would be ideal as they are automatic and you don't have gears to worry about. Gears would be all right, but the problem is you would have to adjust them to the new machine
Don't forget to improve the brakes as well though as you will want to stop and the existing brakes will bit be useless, especially with the extra weight.
Also, be careful if you actually plan on driving it. If you want to take it on the road, it may be illegal without lights, insurance, etc. as it would be classed as a motor vehicle.
