Should I get a shift kit for my Civic?
I got an 03 Civic Dx sedan with only 15,00 miles on it about a year or two ago. I wanted a faster car, but it was free and in good condition, so I took it. It's an automatic, so I thought it'd be pointless to put aftermarket parts on the engine; but now I'm wondering if a shift kit would make it faster. If so, about how much would it cost including service? With other parts could it be a respectable car; or would it still pretty much be an old woman's car? Thanks.
Getting a shift kit for your car will not make it one
bit faster. IF you were really well trained, and
experienced in how to speed shift to get the most
from your car, you MIGHT get a better acceleration,
but it still will not help you with speed.
There is a trick to shifting a car with a smaller engine
to win a race with a car that has a larger engine. A
stick shift would be a requirement, but without the
training of how to make that happen would take you
three, or more years to get it right. Within one year
with this car you would have already have blown your
engine trying. Not to mention the many other things
that might have gone wrong before you killed the
engine.
My suggestion is to just drive this car for your proper,
normal driving while you work toward getting enough
to buy one that is faster; a whole lot faster.
Your impression of your car being "an old woman's car"
tells everyone that you are very young yet, and do
not yet have the proper idea of what your usual car
should be, and your proper driving habits. Most of
the professional race drivers do not drive their 'fast'
car on the street, but instead have a nice 'family'
type car for proper, everyday driving.
